ICHUNG'WAH ; GACHAGUA SENT GOONS TO MURDER MY PARENTS AND DESTROY PROPERTY

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of allegedly hiring goons to his Kikuyu home to kill his parents and destroy property.

Addressing Parliament on Thursday, June 26, the Kikuyu lawmaker said he considered himself a target due to his position as Majority Leader and his close ties with President William Ruto.

He alleged that the attackers exploited the loophole of Wednesday’s protests to break into his business premises, vandalize property, and attempt to murder his 105-year-old father and 85-year-old mother.

“I am growing old, but I am not older than my father. They have worked hard to raise us and build businesses that have supported our family. Yesterday, Honourable Speaker, there was an attempt to kill my parents,” Ichung’wah claimed.

Ichung’wah directly accused Gachagua of orchestrating the attacks in what he termed as a mission driven by vengeance.

“I dare say today in this House that Honourable Rigathi Gachagua is the one who directed the goons he mobilised to go and murder my parents, destroy my property in Kikuyu, and destroy the property of the people of Kikuyu in the name of revenge. Honourable Speaker, we cannot build a country that way.”

The agitated lawmaker also recounted the massive destruction in his Kikuyu constituency, including the torching of Kikuyu Law Courts and defacing of Sub-County offices — acts he blamed on hired goons allegedly ferried from Kiambu County and Dagoretti.

“People were being ferried from Limuru and Dagoretti into Kikuyu, with some travelling from as far as Kiambaa and Juja to carry out the destruction that you saw yesterday.”

Former Deputy President Gachagua, who has faced multiple accusations of sponsoring Wednesday’s protests as part of an alleged coup plot, defended himself, stating that the young protesters were simply expressing frustration over unfulfilled government promises.
