IG KANJA VOWS TRANSPARENT POLICE RECRUITMENT, WARNS AGAINST CORRUPTION

Inspector General of Police (IG) Douglas Kanja has pledged a fair and transparent police recruitment exercise, warning that anyone who attempts to compromise the process will face jail time. Speaking during a media interview on Monday, September 15, 2025, Kanja admitted that corruption has long plagued police recruitment but assured Kenyans that this year will be different. He revealed that the National Police Service is working closely with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to detect and address any malpractice.

“We all know there is a lot of corruption in recruitment. This time, I want to assure Kenyans that the process will be transparent. If you meet the qualifications, you will be recruited — no shortcuts, no bribery,” the IG said.

Kanja emphasized that any Kenyan who qualifies will automatically be considered, stressing that merit will be the sole basis for selection. He further warned that officers or officials found undermining the process will be expelled from the service and prosecuted. “Anyone who goes against this spirit of transparency will not only be dismissed but also face jail,” he stated.

The IG also disclosed that he has invited the EACC to review police systems and policies to identify and seal corruption loopholes, ensuring that only deserving candidates are recruited.
