Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has appeared before the senate to respond to questions over the death of Albert Ojwang. Senate speaker Amason Kingi invited him to appear before the plenary after senators raised questions regarding the circumstances that led to the death of Albert while in police custody.
Before the planned plenary session, Kingi said the CS will be interrogated by the committee of the whole house on the matter. Murkomen has appeared alongside Inspector General Douglas Kanja, DCI Director Amin Mohammed, and IPOA Deputy Chairperson Anne Mwangi.
They were also placed under oath after a formal request by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his Homa Bay counterpart Moses Kajwang before facing questions regarding the tragic death. Senator Kajwang urged the speaker to enforce the oath taking to reassure citizens, especially the people of Homa Bay and the family of the late Ojwang, whose death is at the center of the inquiry.
The Interior CS has said that the government will not interfere or shield anyone found connected to the death of influencer Albert Ojwang. He described Ojwang’s death in police custody as regrettable and extended condolences to the bereaved family. He further pledged to mobilize resources to ensure justice is served.
