ISRAEL STRIKES GAZA HOSPITAL, KILLING AT LEAST 20 PEOPLE INCLUDING FIVE JOURNALISTS

Israeli airstrikes on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, on Monday August 25, 2025, left at least 20 people dead, among them five journalists, doctors, and rescuers, according to Palestinian health officials and international media organizations.
Witnesses said the hospital was struck twice in quick succession—the first missile hitting the upper floors, followed by a second strike that landed near a stairwell as journalists and medical teams rushed to help the wounded. Human rights groups condemned the attack as an example of the so-called “double tap” strikes, which target first responders and are considered a violation of international law.
Among the dead were journalists working for Reuters, the Associated Press, Al Jazeera, and Middle East Eye. Their deaths add to the mounting toll on media workers in Gaza, where the Committee to Protect Journalists says at least 189 journalists have been killed since October 2023.
The Israeli military acknowledged carrying out the strike but called it a “tragic mishap,” saying it is conducting an internal investigation. Officials claimed the hospital was being used as cover by Hamas fighters, though no evidence has been publicly presented.
International reaction was swift. UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack, urging Israel to respect international humanitarian law. Leaders from the UK and European Union also called for an independent investigation.
The strike comes amid Israel’s nearly two-year-long offensive in Gaza, which has killed more than 62,000 Palestinians, including thousands of health workers and civilians, according to Gaza health authorities.
