Israel has sharply criticised the United Kingdom’s decision to formally recognise the State of Palestine, warning that the move “rewards terrorism” and will not sway its firm opposition to Palestinian sovereignty.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the recognition as “an enormous prize for terror,” insisting that “there will be no Palestinian state west of the Jordan River.” He maintained that Britain’s decision undermines peace efforts and encourages militant groups.
The UK announced on Sunday September 21, 2025, that it was extending official recognition to Palestine, citing the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the need to protect the viability of a two-state solution. Similar announcements were made recently by Canada and Australia.
Israel’s foreign ministry signalled that it will review its diplomatic ties with London following the move, while urging other Western nations to reject similar steps. The development deepens tensions between Israel and key Western allies at a time of heightened regional instability.
