Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, speaking on behalf of the United Opposition coalition, has pledged that the alliance will decisively tackle corruption if it assumes power in 2027. In a statement shared on his official X account on Friday, September 5, 2025, Kalonzo stressed the urgent need to confront corruption directly, declaring that the rampant greed for land grabbing and looting of public resources must come to an end under their leadership. “We must face the monster of corruption head-on. The endless appetite for land grabbing and plunder of public resources has to stop. And it will stop once the United Opposition forms government in 2027,” he said.
Kalonzo further assured Kenyans that the coalition remains united and unshaken, vowing that the opposition would not betray the public through internal divisions, especially at a time when Kenyans rely on it most. “My fellow Kenyans, the United Opposition will not break. We remain strong and resolute. We will not betray you through disunity, particularly now, when you need us the most,” he affirmed.
Turning his criticism toward President William Ruto, the former vice president questioned the government’s economic model, arguing that while the president insists it is working, millions of Kenyans are struggling with hunger, public universities are in crisis, and students are living in misery. “I have heard President Ruto say his economic model is working. But working for whom? Millions of Kenyans cannot afford a meal. Our public universities are collapsing, and the dignity of students has been reduced to misery,” Kalonzo remarked.
On education, Kalonzo emphasized that it is a constitutional right, adding that he found it ironic and regrettable to see President Ruto and his allies celebrate Katiba Day, given that Ruto himself opposed the 2010 Constitution. “Education is a constitutional right. Yet watching Ruto and his newfound allies celebrate Katiba Day was disheartening because he personally opposed this very constitution,” he stated.
He concluded by underscoring that a constitution without adherence to constitutionalism is meaningless, insisting that the Bill of Rights must always protect the dignity and freedoms of Kenyans, and reaffirmed the coalition’s stand against political intolerance.
