KENYA POWER REVEALS LIST OF 7 COUNTIES THAT WILL EXPERIENCE POWER BLACKOUT TODAY

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced that parts of seven counties will be without electricity on Thursday, August 21, due to planned maintenance works.

The utility firm said the scheduled outage will run for up to ten hours in some areas, beginning as early as 7 a.m. Customers were urged to make necessary arrangements to avoid disruptions.

In Nairobi County, the blackout will affect sections of Westlands, including General Mathenge, Peponi Road, Spring Valley and nearby estates.

In Kisumu, parts of Sondu such as Kandaria, Ingutsi Centre and Chabera will be switched off between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Residents of Igambang’ombe in Tharaka Nithi will also experience interruptions. Affected areas include Kamaindi Market, Mpangua Village and surrounding communities.

Murang’a County is set for outages in Gatanga, with estates such as Githingiri, Thika Green, Mugumo Farm and nearby facilities listed.

Meru County will be among the hardest hit, with Kiirua, Ntugi, Gitoro and wide surrounding zones expected to be off-grid for most of the day. This includes schools, hospitals, hotels and markets.

In Kiambu, two zones will be affected Ndumboini and Uthiru, as well as Juja and Mangu Road. Key institutions such as UON Kabete Vet, Maryhill Girls and several markets are within the maintenance zone.

Kilifi County will face interruptions in Marafa and Sabaki, covering Mambrui, Marafa town, Garashi and several resorts along the coast.

Kenya Power said the planned works are aimed at improving the stability and reliability of electricity supply in the affected regions.

Meanwhile, the government has approved Phase III of the Last Mile Connectivity Project, which will connect over 180,000 households, schools and small businesses to the grid. The project is being implemented with support from the African Development Bank and the Canada-AfDB Climate Fund.
