KENYAN ARTIST OCTOPIZZO SLAMS POLITICIANS FOR EXPLOITING THE POOR

Renowned Kenyan rapper Henry Ohanga popularly known as Octopizzo, has called out politicians for exploiting the poor rather than helping them. In a powerful post on his official X account on the night of Monday, June 16,2025, the rapper argued that poverty in Kenya is not only a condition but also a political tool. He stated that political leaders deliberately perpetuate poverty to control voters, using hunger as a tool to secure support, distributing handouts instead of sustainable solutions, and profiting from unfulfilled promises.

Reflecting on his upbringing in Kibera, he highlighted the realities faced by many Kenyans. Realities like lack of clean water, unsafe shelter, limited education access, and systematic neglect. He further criticized Kenya’s electoral system, describing it as cycle of exploitation where poverty is maintained to ensure political dominance.

Octopizzo also took aim at Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen over newly announced police reforms accusing him of offering cosmetic changes that fail to address deep rooted brutality within the police service. He described the reforms as an attempt to apply polish over bloodstains, citing the killing of teacher and blogger Albert Ojwang’ as a glaring example of impunity within the system. Murkomen’s plan includes the installation of CCTVs in all 1,209 police stations, digitization of the Occurrence Book(OB), and enhanced officer training.
