KIRK'S MURDER SUSPECT CONFESSES

The man suspected of killing American conservative activist Charlie Kirk allegedly confessed on social media hours before being taken into custody, law enforcement and the messaging platform Discord have confirmed.

According to a Discord spokesperson, Tyler Robinson, 22, wrote in a group chat shortly before his arrest last week:
“It was me at UVU ( Utah Valley University) yesterday. I’m sorry for all of this.”

The messages, first reported by the Washington Post, were shared in a chat involving more than 20 people as police searched for Kirk’s shooter. Robinson also indicated in the group that he was preparing to turn himself in.

“I’m surrendering through a sheriff friend in a few moments… thanks for all the good times and laughs,” another message read.

Investigators say friends in the chat questioned Robinson about whether he was the gunman. While he didn’t directly admit it, he also did not deny the suggestion.

Robinson was detained on suspicion of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice. He is expected in court on Tuesday and could face the death penalty if convicted.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed that Robinson eventually handed himself in after admitting to the killing. However, officials say he has since stopped cooperating with investigators, though his roommate has provided information.

Charlie Kirk, 31, was speaking at an open-air Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday when a single bullet struck him in the neck. He died at the scene.

The assassination of the outspoken activist, a close ally of former President Donald Trump, triggered a fierce political backlash. Both Republicans and Democrats accused one another of fueling divisive rhetoric that, they said, contributed to the climate of violence.

FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that a text message retrieved from Robinson’s phone showed intent.

"Robinson specifically stated that he had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and he was going to do that,” Patel told Fox News.

Officials are still probing Robinson’s motive. Governor Cox earlier described him as “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology.” Records show Robinson had registered as a nonpartisan voter in Utah, while his parents are registered Republicans. A family member reportedly told investigators Robinson had grown “more political” in recent years and had mentioned Kirk’s upcoming Utah visit during a family dinner.

Some conservative figures have suggested that Robinson may not have acted alone. Stephen Miller, a senior Trump aide, hinted at a broader conspiracy, though no evidence has been produced to back that claim.

Meanwhile, investigators are combing through Robinson’s social media activity to determine whether others knew of his intentions or encouraged him.

The deceased was a staunch Christian and a polarizing figure in US politics. He championed gun rights, opposed abortion, and dismissed progressive stances on LGBTQ+ rights, Islam, and COVID-19. To his supporters, he was a relatable voice who could connect across divides; to his critics, he was a provocateur whose comments often stoked anger.

Through Turning Point USA, the organisation he co-founded, Kirk worked to spread conservative ideas on college campuses and played a central role in rallying young voters for Trump and other Republican candidates.
