KURIA:KALONZO KNOWS 2027 ELECTIONS WON’T HAPPEN, BUT WON’T ADMIT TO IT.

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has stirred political controversy with a bold claim that Kenya will not hold general elections in 2027—insisting that Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is aware of this but is unwilling to admit it publicly.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Kuria wrote:
“I’m not a Senior Counsel… Kalonzo Musyoka is. He knows there is not going to be an election in 2027. The only difference is that I’m honest and he is not.”
Kuria attributed the looming risk of a postponed election to the continued absence of a fully constituted Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). He warned that ongoing legal challenges and political disagreements over the reconstitution of the electoral body could extend well into 2027, making it impossible to conduct free and fair elections.
This statement comes amid growing concern over the prolonged vacancy in the IEBC following the resignation and exit of former commissioners. The Kenya Kwanza government has yet to complete the process of appointing new commissioners.
According to the Constitution of Kenya (2010), Article 101 mandates that general elections must be held on the second Tuesday of August every fifth year. That means Kenya is legally expected to head to the polls in August 2027.
In addition, Article 88 of the Constitution establishes the IEBC and outlines its central role in managing elections, including registering voters, overseeing nominations, managing election logistics, and resolving disputes.
Legal experts have warned that delays in constituting the IEBC could disrupt critical electoral timelines such as voter registration, boundary reviews, and candidate nominations—raising genuine concerns about the 2027 polls.
While no official government position has been taken on Kuria’s remarks, opposition leaders are likely to seize on the statement as evidence of deeper political plans. Kalonzo Musyoka has not yet responded to the claims.
