The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has refuted claims that it has withdrawn from the ongoing case involving missing blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia.
In a statement issued on Tuesday July 29, 2025, LSK President Faith Odhiambo confirmed that the society remains actively involved in the matter through legal representation of Kinyagia’s family, despite the blogger opting to represent himself in court.
“We have not withdrawn from the case. While Kinyagia chose to represent himself, we continue to support the family legally and remain committed to pursuing the habeas corpus application,” Odhiambo stated.
LSK had filed the initial habeas corpus petition in June following Kinyagia’s alleged abduction from his Kinoo home. The High Court later ordered police to produce him in court. Kinyagia resurfaced in early July, claiming he had gone into hiding over security fears.
The matter took a new twist last week after conflicting statements emerged regarding the circumstances of his disappearance. Despite this, LSK maintains its position that due legal process must be followed.
The court has given Kinyagia 14 days to file a personal affidavit detailing his disappearance. The next hearing is scheduled for September 16, 2025.
LSK emphasized that its involvement in the case stems from a broader commitment to upholding human rights and the rule of law, especially where enforced disappearances are alleged.
“Our role is not political. We stand for justice, and the Kinyagia case remains part of that mission,” Odhiambo affirmed.
