MEDIAMAX DENIES SOCIAL MEDIA CLAIMS OF K24 TV SHUTDOWN, CONFIRMS STATION STILL OPERATIONAL

Mediamax Network Limited has denied widespread social media reports alleging that its television station, K24 TV, has ceased operations.

The company clarified on Friday, August 15, that the station remains on air and operational, terming the circulating claims as false. The rumours, which trended on Facebook and X, alleged that K24 TV had been shut down after 17 years of broadcasting, leaving hundreds of employees jobless.

A screenshot of one of the viral posts was flagged by the station as fake. Mediamax urged the public to verify information through its official social media platforms and website.

The clarification comes as Mediamax undertakes a major restructuring exercise. The media house, which also operates Milele FM and People Daily, recently issued a 30-day redundancy notice to employees.

In an internal memo, Chief Executive Officer Ken Ngaruiya stated that the changes aim to align the company’s operations with evolving market dynamics and the rapid digital transformation in the media industry. He cited reduced business volumes, a shrinking client base, and new government regulations as factors influencing the decision.

The restructuring will see some positions abolished as part of efficiency measures. Mediamax indicated that the changes are intended to improve operational effectiveness while adapting to shifting audience and client needs.

Despite the planned layoffs, the company affirmed that K24 TV will continue broadcasting and that no closure is planned.
