Missing blogger and tech entrepreneur Ndiang’ui Kinyagia has finally broken his silence, confirming that he is alive and safe after days of public concern and legal pressure on authorities to account for his whereabouts.
In a statement shared through his legal team, Kinyagia said he went into hiding after learning that he was being sought by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). He cited fears for his life as the reason for disappearing.
“I had to retreat to a secure location after I received credible information that I was being targeted,” he said. “My intention has never been to evade justice, but to ensure my personal safety is guaranteed.”
Kinyagia, who has been linked to the design of a widely circulated Gen Z protest timetable, said he is ready to cooperate with investigative authorities. However, he stressed that he will only do so under proper legal procedures and with assurances that he will not be harmed.
The blogger’s comments come just two days after the High Court ordered the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI boss Mohamed Amin to produce him in court or explain his disappearance. Both the police and the DCI have denied holding him in custody.
Kinyagia is expected to appear at the Milimani High Court on Thursday July 3,2025 at 11a.m. accompanied by his legal team. His lawyers are also calling for enhanced security during his appearance, citing continued threats.
The case has drawn widespread attention amid growing concerns about the safety of activists, bloggers, and digital rights defenders involved in the recent Gen Z-led protests across the country.
