The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has issued a closure order to Habanos Lounge, a popular entertainment spot located along the Northern Bypass, Nairobi. The move comes after persistent complaints from nearby residents regarding excessive noise pollution emanating from the establishment.
According to NEMA, the club had previously been warned and instructed to implement noise control measures. However, despite earlier directives, Habanos Lounge failed to comply, prompting the authority to take decisive action.
In a public statement, NEMA confirmed that the closure order takes immediate effect. “The establishment has shown a blatant disregard for environmental regulations and community well-being. As such, we have exercised our mandate to shut it down until further notice,” the statement read.
Noise pollution, particularly from nightclubs and lounges, has been a growing concern for residents in various parts of Nairobi. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing noise regulations and ensuring a peaceful environment for all.
Residents in the affected area have welcomed the decision, citing long-standing disturbances and sleepless nights. The move signals NEMA’s renewed vigilance in addressing environmental concerns and holding non-compliant businesses accountable.
