"OCS DOWN, DIG UNTOUCHED: IPOA UNDER PRESSURE IN POLICE SCANDAL"

The arrest of interdicted Central Police Station OCS Samson Talaam has triggered a wave of public outcry, with increasing pressure on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to also arrest Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Edward Lagat, who is allegedly implicated in the same corruption probe.

Talaam was apprehended Thursday morning by officers from the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU), but the public sees this as just the tip of the iceberg in a larger web of police misconduct.

According to sources who spoke exclusively to OnFleek Media, IPOA has opened an active investigation into DIG Lagat, following complaints linking him to abuse of office, shielding of rogue officers, and interference with internal investigations.

“We want Lagat arrested too. Talaam did not act alone,” said Agnes Wanjiru, a resident of Nairobi and member of a local police watchdog group. “This looks like a cover-up aimed at protecting the powerful.”

Online, frustration is mounting. Hashtags such as #ArrestDIGLagat, #JusticeBeyondTalaam, and #IPOAWeAreWatching are trending, with many Kenyans demanding full accountability across the police hierarchy.

A senior IPOA official, speaking to OnFleek Media on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the deputy IG is under scrutiny. “No officer is above the law. Investigations are ongoing,” the official said.

Despite the public uproar, police spokesperson Resila Onyango maintained that IPOA and IAU are independently handling all relevant matters. She declined to comment on Lagat’s case specifically.

Civil society groups are now mobilizing for protests next week, calling for the arrest of all implicated officers, regardless of rank.
