ODM leader and former premier, Raila Odinga has confirmed that his party will challenge President Ruto come 2027 elections.
This marks the first time Odinga has publicly announced that ODM will have a presidential candidate , despite signing the Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with President Ruto .
Speaking in an Eid Baraza, in Mombasa , on Saturday, he maintained that ODM is not in any coalition with the government, but it only provided 'experts' to help advise the government.
He further stated that his decision was motivated by peace and not selfish interests .
“I did not enter into this arrangement with the State to betray Kenyans. Kenya is bigger and more important than any individual. Kenyans must unite and work together. But when the time comes for elections, ODM will also contest."
The former Prime Minister continued urging the national government to work on enhancing devolution to boost development of counties. He also criticized the rampant corruption in the country calling for accountability .
“Corruption is Kenya’s greatest enemy. We are seeing large sums of money being diverted into private pockets. Corruption must end, and all those involved must be arrested and brought to court,” he stated.
Raila mentioned on the upcoming ODM grassroot elections urging them to maintain peace and unity ;
“The party elections should be a friendly match, don’t fight each other, you are siblings. We should remain united,” he added.
