POLICE DOWNPLAYS GACHAGUA’S RETURN, ASSURE OF NORMALCY AT JKIA

The National Police Service has dismissed fears of unrest ahead of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s return to the country, assuring that normal operations will continue at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja said Gachagua’s arrival is an ordinary matter and that security arrangements are firmly in place to maintain order.
“We wish to assure Kenyans and travelers that JKIA remains safe and secure. There is no cause for alarm, and normalcy has been restored,” Kanja stated.
His remarks come amid speculation of heightened political tension following Gachagua’s recent remarks abroad. Kanja noted that any issues arising would be handled in accordance with the law, emphasizing that no one is above it.
At the same time, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen cautioned Gachagua’s supporters against causing disruptions at the airport. He revealed that security agencies had received intelligence reports pointing to possible attempts to incite chaos during the reception, warning that police would act decisively if public order was breached.
Thousands of supporters are reportedly expected to welcome the former deputy president, with authorities maintaining that the situation is under control.
