Popular City Musician Ringtone Arraigned Over Ksh 50 Million Land Fraud Case

Renowned gospel musician Alex Nyachonga Apoko, popularly known as Ringtone, was on Thursday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts alongside co-accused Alfred Juma Ayora over allegations of fraud involving a prime parcel of land valued at Ksh 50 million in the upscale Karen area.

The two are facing three counts, including conspiracy to defraud, forgery, and perjury. According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly conspired to defraud businesswoman Terresia Adhiambo Odhiambo of land parcel NAIROBI/BLOCK 99/142, measuring approximately 0.1908 hectares, by falsely claiming adverse possession, alleging that Apoko had resided on the property for over 20 years.

The court heard that on February 28, 2023, the accused falsely swore an affidavit before advocate S.M. Katonya, purporting that Apoko had lived on the land for two decades,a claim prosecutors say was knowingly false.

In her ruling, Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego ordered that Ringtone be remanded in custody until Monday, when the court is set to rule on his bail application.

The case has sparked widespread attention due to Apoko's public profile and controversial history in Kenya’s gospel music and entertainment scene.
