PRESIDENT KAGAME RECEIVES UHURU KENYATTA AT VILLAGE URUGWIRO

President Paul Kagame of Rwanda received former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta on the afternoon of July 11. 2025, at Village Urugwiro. President Uhuru Kenyatta who serves as one of the facilitators of the EAAC-SADC peace initiative, is involved in efforts to restore peace in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC). Their meeting focused on advancing initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region and addressing the underlying causes in the ongoing conflict.

According to a post on X from the Office of the President of Rwanda, Kenyatta arrived in Kigali as part of his mission to address unresolved issues in the DRC. Rwanda has faced accusations of supporting the M23/AFC rebel group, allegation it denies, while in turn accusing the DRC of backing the FDLR, a terrorist organization implicated in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Kenyatta’s visit coincides with a parallel development in Doha, Qatar, where Rwanda’s Minister of Security and the DRC’s Minister of Interior are attending discussions between the M23 group and the Congolese government. The two ministers are participating as invited observes. Earlier this year, in January, Kenyatta remarked that the Nairobi peace talks had shown promise but were derailed by actions taken by the DRC government that obstructed progress.
