Rarieda, Kenya – ODM party leader Raila Odinga has sensationally claimed that opposition leaders recently approached him with a proposal to unite against President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 General Election—but he turned them down.
Speaking during a public address in Rarieda on Thursday, Raila revealed that he was offered a presidential backing in 2027 on condition that he would support a different candidate in 2032. He dismissed the deal as untrustworthy and questioned the integrity of those behind it.
“Some people said we were outsiders… the same people now want to walk with us. One of them even said he’d remove us from the queue to State House. Can you really work with such a person?” Raila posed.
The former Prime Minister reaffirmed his commitment to working with President Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration, stating that the partnership was based on shared goals and unity, not political expediency.
"I am going nowhere. I will not abandon Ruto because I know where we are heading. We will walk together to our destination,” he declared.
Raila criticized early campaigners, urging Kenyans to focus on development and national unity. He assured his supporters that when the time is right, he would provide clear political direction.
He defended his decision to collaborate with Kenya Kwanza, stating it was aimed at ending political exclusion and bringing tangible benefits to his supporters.
Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, who accompanied Raila, said the ODM leader had sanctioned cooperation with the government. Wandayi also condemned the June 25 anti-government protests, terming them as a ploy to destabilize the nation.
"This government is focused on progress, but some individuals are obsessed with confusion,” said Wandayi.
Raila’s remarks come at a time of heightened political realignment and speculation ahead of the 2027 elections, with cracks widening both in government and opposition ranks.
