President William Ruto has directed the Ministry of Interior to buy 3,000 electric cars for administrative officers to use in their work, thus, making things easier for them.
The President, when he was receiving the Jukwaa la Afya report at State House on Tuesday, said that the National Government Administration Officers do not have enough vehicles and thus their movement around the station is crippled which in turn affects the delivery of services.
He said that the officers have no fuel for the vehicles but the electric vehicles can be a solution as they will enhance movement and the officers will be able to perform their jobs effectively.
"CS (Murkomen), now let us buy 3,000 new cars for administrative duties, we will purchase electric vehicles to avoid fuel problems," he said.
Among the reforms Ruto has made to improve the situation for the officers and thus also, indirectly, the public is the posting of officers over 50 years to work close to their homes as they prepare for retirement. He has also said that the lazy police officers aged 50 and above must be promoted so they can plan their retirement satisfactorily. "We have also discussed about the promotion of lower ranks," Ruto said.
In addition, to reduce the risk of officers losing their social lives due to a transfer, Ruto said that no transfer should take place within a year to protect the social welfare of the officers. "No officer will serve in an operational area for three years at the most," he further directed. This comes a day after around 1,837 chiefs and assistant chiefs received their diplomas at the National Police College Embakasi ‘A’ Campus, Nairobi, on Monday.
President Ruto, the one who officiated the ceremony, decreed that the whole bunch of administration officers undergo training that will equip the government with the skills for effective service delivery. He went further to state that the previous training was held in 2016, which allowed the necessity for the training programs to be increased to enhancethe process of government projects' implementation. Training of 6,000 chiefs and assistant chiefs is already scheduled to start.
