Siaya County Assembly Speaker George Okode has dismissed widespread rumours claiming that Governor James Orengo has resigned, terming the reports as fake and politically motivated.
Speaking to the media, Okode stated that he had not received any official communication or resignation letter from Governor Orengo, whose alleged exit letter circulated widely on social media over the weekend. The document, which claimed Orengo had stepped down due to health issues, has since been denounced as a forgery.
"I want to categorically state that there is no such letter in the records of the County Assembly. The governor is still in office, and operations of the county government continue as normal," said Okode.
The Speaker pointed fingers at unnamed political saboteurs, accusing them of trying to destabilize the county leadership by spreading misinformation. "This is the work of individuals with a political agenda who want to create panic and confusion among the people of Siaya," he said.
Governor Orengo, who has been away on what officials say is a personal trip abroad, has not made a public statement on the matter. However, his party, ODM, has also rubbished the resignation claims, reaffirming that the governor is still in charge.
The fake resignation sparked concerns among residents and triggered fresh debate about a possible fallout between Orengo and his deputy, William Oduol, who has recently accused the governor’s office of sidelining him.
Despite the controversy, county leadership maintains that all government functions remain uninterrupted.
