SUDAN DISPLACEMENT CAMP ATTACKED : 14 DEAD

Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a deadly attack on the Abu Shouk displacement camp in North Darfur, killing at least 14 civilians. The shelling struck a market and residential areas, leaving many wounded and deepening the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn region.

The Abu Shouk camp, home to tens of thousands displaced by previous conflicts and the ongoing war has been repeatedly targeted by RSF forces. Since losing control of the capital, Khartoum, in March, the RSF has intensified its assaults on El-Fasher, the last state capital in Darfur, still under army control and nearby camps.

Volunteer rescue groups reported that heavy artillery shelling caused significant destruction, further exacerbating the suffering of displaced families. The attack comes just weeks after a similar strike on the camp also claimed lives.

Sudan’s civil war, which erupted in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands, displaced over 13 million people, and created one of the world’s largest hunger crises. The conflict has effectively split the country, with the army controlling the center, north, and east, while the RSF dominates nearly all of Darfur and parts of the south.

As international organizations call for urgent intervention, the people of Sudan continue to endure relentless violence, with no end in sight to the devastating conflict.
