TOP HAMAS SECURITY COMMANDER KILLED IN GAZA STRIKE

Israeli forces have announced the killing of Mahmoud al-Aswad, a top Hamas security commander, in an airstrike on western Gaza. Al-Aswad, who headed Hamas’s General Security Apparatus in the region, was described by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) as a “key figure” and a “significant source of knowledge” within the militant group.
The strike is part of Israel’s intensified campaign to dismantle Hamas’s leadership and military infrastructure. Al-Aswad’s death is expected to weaken Hamas’s internal security and counter-intelligence operations in Gaza, undermining the group’s ability to coordinate its activities.
The killing comes amid a series of targeted strikes against senior Hamas leaders. In May, the IDF eliminated Muhammad Shabaneh, commander of Hamas’s Rafah Brigade, along with Mohammed Sinwar, considered the group’s de facto leader, in a strike on a bunker beneath Khan Younis. In June, Hakham al-Issa, a co-founder of Hamas and head of its combat support headquarters, was killed in Gaza City. Earlier this month, Nasser Musa, a senior figure in Hamas’s Military Control Department, was also eliminated in southern Gaza.
Israeli officials say the removal of these figures marks a major step in crippling Hamas’s command structure, while analysts warn the group could attempt to quickly fill the leadership void to maintain control in Gaza.
