TRAGIC BETRAYAL: MARRIED WOMAN SHOT DEAD BY POLICE LOVER IN KITUI

Investigations have confirmed that the woman shot dead by a police officer in Kanyonyoo, Kitui County, was married with children and had left her home under the pretext of job-hunting.

Joy Mutisya, a mother of two, told her family she was heading to Kitengela in search of work. Instead, she travelled to Kitui to meet the man now accused of killing her.

Her in-laws say she had never shown signs of distress and was known to be a loving mother and devoted wife. She left behind a Form Three student and a child in Grade Six.

Joy was reportedly confronted by the officer at the home of her friend, Jane Ndanu, where she had sought refuge after a dispute. The confrontation quickly escalated.

According to witnesses, the officer drew his AK-47 rifle and opened fire, killing both women instantly.
“Askari alikuwa anataka kupiga Joy, sasa huyo madam alikuwa anamzuia asimpige ndio akawaua wote hapo hapo,” said a witness, Stanley Kiilu.

Joy’s father-in-law, Jonathan Waema, expressed disbelief. “Amepigwa risasi mingi sana… alikuwa anafunzwa namna gani kama anaweza fyatua risasi na auwe wasichana wawili?”

After the shooting, the officer fled the scene, abandoning his rifle in a nearby thicket. As of Wednesday evening, he was still on the run.

Kitui Police Commander Martha Nge’tich confirmed the double homicide and ongoing manhunt. “Alikosana na girlfriend wake, kisha baadaye akamuua na pia kumuua yule alikuwa rafiki wake na kutoroka,” she said.

Back in Machakos, the Mutisya family is devastated and seeking justice. “Ameuawa na mtu wa serikali, serikali yenyewe ndio inachunguza… tunataka haki,” Waema added.

Family member Peter Mwania lamented the betrayal of trust. “Polisi wale wanafaa watulinde na sasa ndio wanatuua.”

An autopsy on both bodies is scheduled for Thursday. Preparations for burial are underway as the two families call for the suspect’s immediate arrest and prosecution.
