TRUMP SAYS COCA COLA AGREES TO USE SUGAR CANE FOR COLE IN THE U.S

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday July 16 2025 claimed that Coca-Cola will soon replace high-fructose corn syrup with real cane sugar in its US products—a move he touted as a win for public health and taste alike. But while Trump made the declaration with characteristic flair, the beverage giant has not confirmed the switch.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump said, “I have been speaking to Coca-Cola about using REAL Cane Sugar in Coke in the United States, and they have agreed to do so. This will be a very good move by them — You’ll see. It’s just better!”
Coca-Cola, however, has not directly acknowledged any recipe change. When pressed by NBC News, a company spokesperson offered a carefully worded response: “We appreciate President Trump’s enthusiasm for our iconic Coca-Cola brand. More details on new innovative offerings within our Coca-Cola product range will be shared soon.”
In the US, Coca-Cola has relied primarily on high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) as a sweetener since 1984, citing supply and cost efficiency. By contrast, international versions of the soda, including those sold in Mexico and Europe, often use cane sugar—leading to a dedicated fan base of “Mexican Coke” enthusiasts who claim it tastes smoother and cleaner. The push to shift back to cane sugar aligns with the goals of Trump’s newly adopted health initiative, Make America Healthy Again, which is reportedly backed by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The movement advocates the elimination of ingredients like corn syrup, artificial dyes, and seed oils from food products.
