Two young siblings have died after a fire razed their wooden home on the border of Uasin Gishu and Baringo counties on Wednesday August 13, 2025, night.
According to police, the children, aged one and three, were alone in the house when the blaze broke out at around 8 p.m. Their mother had reportedly stepped out to a nearby shop during a power outage, leaving a candle burning inside.
The candle is suspected to have toppled over, igniting nearby household items and engulfing the home in flames. Neighbors managed to pull the children from the burning house and rushed them to Timboroa Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
Their bodies have been moved to the Eldama Ravine morgue. Authorities have launched investigations into the incident and urged residents to exercise caution when using candles during power blackouts.
