UN ACCUSES ISRAEL OF GENOCIDE, PILING PRESSURE ON NETANYAHU

The United Nations has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, in a finding that heaps fresh diplomatic and legal pressure on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government.
A UN Commission of Inquiry led by former International Criminal Court judge Navi Pillay reported on Tuesday September 16, 2025 that Israel’s military actions met four of the five acts defined as genocide under the 1948 Genocide Convention, including killing, inflicting serious bodily or mental harm, and creating conditions of life intended to destroy a population.
The report directly implicates senior Israeli officials, including Netanyahu, in what it describes as incitement to genocide.
Israel swiftly rejected the accusations as “baseless and politically motivated,” arguing the commission ignored attacks by Hamas and the country’s right to self-defense.
The finding is among the most serious allegations yet levelled against Israel since the Gaza war erupted in October 2023 and could fuel cases before the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court, while increasing calls for sanctions or other punitive measures from the international community.
Diplomats and analysts say the UN’s conclusions threaten to deepen Israel’s isolation and complicate Netanyahu’s efforts to rally allies as the conflict grinds on.
