UNCOLLECTED ID CARDS AT HUDUMA CENTRES, GOVERNMENT TELLS KENYANS TO PICK THEM

The State Department for Public Service is urging Kenyans to collect thousands of unclaimed documents, particularly National Identity Cards (IDs), currently held at Huduma Centres across the country.

The call was made by Principal Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, Dr. Jane Kere Imbunya, during an inspection tour of the Makadara Huduma Centre in Nairobi on Thursday, July 17.

While assessing service delivery and engaging with members of the public, Dr. Imbunya noted a significant number of uncollected documents, with IDs forming the bulk of the backlog. She said the situation poses operational challenges to the centres and limits citizens’ access to critical services.

“Many documents, especially ID cards, have been processed and are ready for collection, but remain unclaimed,” the PS stated. “We encourage all applicants to visit their respective Huduma Centres and pick up their documents.”

The visit aimed to gather feedback from service users and identify areas of improvement to enhance efficiency in public service delivery.

Huduma Centres serve as one-stop shops for government services such as registration of IDs, birth certificates, and other official documents. However, uncollected documents continue to pile up, taking up storage space and slowing down operations.

The PS emphasized the importance of timely document collection to improve service flow and enable citizens to access identification-dependent services such as healthcare, education, and financial transactions.

The State Department said it will continue to sensitise the public and work with relevant agencies to ensure improved service access and accountability.
