The United States Embassy in Nairobi will remain closed on Monday, September 1, 2025, as Washington marks Labor Day, a federal holiday dedicated to honoring the contributions of American workers.
In a statement, the mission confirmed that normal operations will resume on Tuesday September 2, 2025. The closure aligns with U.S. embassies worldwide, which observe both American federal holidays and select host country holidays.
Labor Day, celebrated every first Monday of September, was designated this year through a presidential proclamation by President Donald Trump, urging public officials and citizens to mark the day with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
The embassy advised Kenyans seeking consular services, including visa appointments and notarial services, to plan accordingly, noting that all routine services will be unavailable during the holiday.
