HAITI MISSION: POLICE OFFICER, CIVILIAN KILLED IN CONVOY CRASH

A police officer serving under the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) in Haiti and a civilian were killed on Sunday evening, August 31, after two military vehicles were involved in a fatal accident along the Kenscoff–Pétion-Ville Road.
The crash occurred near Perlerin 9 at around 5:00 p.m. when one MaxxPro military vehicle towing another suffered a mechanical failure, leading to a collision. Both the officer and the civilian were pronounced dead at Lambert Santé Hospital in Pétion-Ville.
Eight other officers sustained injuries in the accident, three of them critically. The injured were first treated at Aspen Level 2 Hospital before three were airlifted to the Dominican Republic for specialized care.
MSS spokesperson Jack Ombaka confirmed the deaths and extended condolences to the bereaved families, pledging the mission’s support.
The incident comes amid escalating insecurity in Haiti, where gang violence continues to overwhelm security forces. The Kenya-led MSS has been operating under a United Nations mandate to help restore order in the troubled Caribbean nation.
