The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a seven-day forecast highlighting counties expected to receive rainfall between August 19 and 25.
According to the forecast, heavy showers will be experienced across the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of Northwestern Kenya. Counties in these regions include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori and Narok. These areas are expected to receive morning showers followed by afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi, cloudy mornings and afternoon showers are expected, with rainfall intensity decreasing as the week progresses.
Turkana and Samburu counties in Northwestern Kenya will also experience morning rainfall and scattered afternoon and night showers, while the Southeastern lowlands — Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita Taveta and parts of Tana River — will see occasional showers, especially early in the period.
Along the Coast, residents of Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale and coastal Tana River should prepare for partly cloudy days with intermittent rainfall in some areas. North Eastern counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo are expected to remain largely dry, although localized showers may occur in Marsabit.
The weatherman has advised residents in the affected regions, particularly Nairobi and surrounding counties, to remain alert for possible flooding and to take necessary precautions.
