MMU STUDENT'S TRAGIC DEATH SPARKS OUTRAGE AND GRIEF

The Multimedia University (MMU) community is reeling from shock after the body of Sylvia Kemunto, a first-year Mass Communications and Computer Science student, was discovered inside a water tank on the rooftop of one of the campus hostels on Wednesday night.

Kemunto had been missing for three days before the horrifying discovery was made, sending waves of grief and anger across the university. The circumstances surrounding her death have left students and faculty members devastated as authorities work to unravel the tragic incident.

On Thursday night, Philip Eric Mutinda, a fellow first-year Electrical Engineering student at MMU, surrendered to police at Sultan Hamud in Makueni County. He has since been named the prime suspect in the murder case.

Investigators have launched a comprehensive probe into the events leading up to Kemunto’s death. Forensic experts and homicide detectives are gathering evidence to determine the motive and piece together the sequence of events.

The university administration has conveyed deep sorrow over the incident and pledged full cooperation with law enforcement agencies. Concerns over campus security have intensified, with students and staff calling for immediate action to enhance safety within the institution.

In an emotional display of unity, students held a candlelight vigil in honor of Kemunto, demanding justice and urgent reforms to prevent similar tragedies in the future. Social media has also been flooded with messages of condolence and calls for increased security measures at universities.

Police have assured the public that the suspect is in custody and will face legal proceedings as investigations continue. Meanwhile, grief counselors have been deployed to provide psychological support to affected students and staff.

This heart-wrenching incident has reignited discussions on student safety, with many calling for urgent reforms to ensure that learning institutions remain secure spaces for all students.
