Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omolo repeated the government pledge to guarantee the integrity and peaceful handling of the current national examinations.
PS Omolo appreciated the seamless coordination between government agencies in maintaining peace in the country during the examination period, as he spoke to the country on Wednesday morning during an examination container opening and handing out of papers at the office of Starehe Deputy County Commissioner.
We have not had any major incidents since exams started, and this is due to the good coordination," said the Omolo.
The PS said the Ministry of Interior collaborated with the Ministry of Education to provide appropriate security and logistical back-up during the period.
Over 600 containers across the country are under tight security to ensure timely delivery and safe storage of exam materials.
PS Omolo conceded that the recent short rains had caused logistical challenges in certain regions but assured that the exams' integrity would not be affected.
"Recently, we experienced a situation in Tana River where floods hindered access, but it was resolved. We will make sure that exams arrive at the centre on time," he said.
The Ministry also issued a statement to establish a national command center at sub-county level for real-time monitoring and immediate action on any emerging issues. "We will take information from this side to ascertain where there are loopholes. In the past we've had early exposure and we will make sure that this is well addressed from Monday; we are working in partnership with the ministry of ICT to act immediately," he added.
Omolo also made a stern warning against attempting to leak exam material or defraud parents on the internet. "We have our ICT team we are also considering individuals using social media and individuals charging money from unsuspecting parents, teachers or learners, wherever we find breaches, we will act accordingly."
The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) comes to an end today, while Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) are on-going across the country.
