The rains, a relief for farmers and residents who have been grappling with a severe water shortage, have been experienced in Nairobi and its environs.
The downpour started yesterday night through to the morning after a prolonged dry spell, marking the beginning of the long-awaited long rains.
The heavy rainfall lasted for several hours causing traffic snarl-ups along major highways. Motorists were stranded in traffic for hours as some roads became impassable due to flooding.
The Kenya Meteorological Department projects a long March to May rainy season in Western Kenya, Rift Valley and Central regions.
