Zambia's Ex- President, The late Edgar Lungu declared that the incumbent President Hakainde Hichilema“should not be anywhere near” his body.
In a statement, Lungu's spokesperson, highlighted that this was part of Lungu's bucket list, Hichilema should stay off his dead body and of course, his burial.
Edgar Lungu died on Thursday, 5th June, aged 68, just six months after the court barred his attempted presidential bid.
He was Zambia's sixth president, reigning from 2015- 2021, a span that saw great diplomatic ties and developments but with increased international debt — a matter that impeded his efforts to beat the long time opposition leader ,Hichilema.
The Ex- President died in South Africa, where he was admitted for an undisclosed illness .
His rifts with the incumbent was evident even upon the government being blocked, by the family and his Patriot Front Party , from flying his body back to the country, on Wednesday.
The Party also accused Hichilema's government of banning Lungu from travelling abroad to seek medication , a matter that allegedly contributed to his death.
However, the government denied the claims , assuring a worthy send-off to the late.
“I’m sure all of us would want to give our former president a fitting send-off, and that is what we must work towards achieving,” the Foreign Minister said.
