U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-staff until Sunday September 14, evening in honour of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University.
Kirk, 31, the founder of Turning Point USA, was struck in the neck in what authorities described as a targeted attack. His death has sent shockwaves across the political landscape, drawing tributes from allies and sparking outrage among supporters.
Trump confirmed the news through posts on his Truth Social platform, describing Kirk as a “patriot and fearless defender of America’s values.” The flag order is set to remain in place through the weekend.
Law enforcement agencies are continuing investigations into the shooting, which has raised fresh concerns about political violence in the United States.
