AIU Hands Ruth Chepng’etich a Three-Year Ban
Kenyan marathon star Ruth Chepng’etich has been handed a three-year ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for violating anti-doping regulations. The former world marathon champion was found guilty of tampering with the doping control process after failing to provide accurate whereabouts information and allegedly interfering with sample collection procedures. According to the AIU statement, Chepng’etich’s actions constituted a serious breach of the integrity rules governing athletics, leading to the lengthy suspension. The ban takes effect from the date of the decision, meaning she will be ineligible to participate in any athletic competitions until 2028. The ruling also nullifies her recent race results, including any titles, medals, or prize money earned during the investigation period. In response, Athletics Kenya expressed disappointment over the incident, emphasizing its continued commitment to clean sport and fair competition. The federation urged athletes to uphold discipline and transparency in their professional conduct to safeguard Kenya’s reputation on the global stage. Chepng’etich, known for her record-breaking performances and consistency in major marathons, now joins a growing list of Kenyan athletes facing sanctions as the country intensifies its anti-doping efforts.
