BABU GOES BARE-KNUCKLED AGAINST MOSIRIA OVER SHAMEFUL INDICTMENT

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has launched a fresh attack on former Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria, dismissing his 2027 gubernatorial ambitions and challenging allegations that the legislator has neglected a woman and two children he allegedly fathered outside his marriage.

The latest exchange has added a personal dimension to the growing political rivalry between the two, with both trading accusations as Nairobi’s political landscape begins taking shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Mosiria recently claimed that Owino had abandoned a woman and two children, a boy and a girl, allegedly living in Embakasi East. He further alleged that the family had repeatedly sought his financial assistance to meet their basic needs.

In a viral video, Mosiria challenged the legislator to address the claims before presenting himself as a candidate capable of leading Nairobi.

"Babu Owino, as we speak right now, your two children—a boy and a girl—are suffering in Embakasi East. I have the evidence. Before you come out to help the people of Nairobi, help your own wife and children. That woman is suffering immensely, and they are constantly in my inbox begging for money. You cannot run for Governor when you cannot protect the very children you fathered. I swear to God, if I am lying, let Babu come out and deny it."

Mosiria also alleged that Owino had abandoned the children's mother because of her humble financial background, claiming that he had stepped in to help the family with money, basic supplies and medical needs.

Owino has strongly denied the allegations, insisting that he is married to Frida Muthoni Ongili and challenging Mosiria to publicly identify the alleged second wife and children.

Speaking in a response that drew attention to his personal experiences, the MP said the accusations were particularly painful because he was raised by a single mother after losing his father while in Class Three.

"I am married to Frida Muthoni Ongili. That is my wife. Any other wife that I am being given by Mosiria, I want that wife, atolewe, in public."

The legislator questioned why he would knowingly leave any of his children without basic necessities, arguing that providing for a child should not be an insurmountable responsibility for a sitting MP.

"You know, Sara, it is quite painful. Babu was raised by a single mom after my dad passed when I was in Class 3. I know what single women go through in this country, looking for money to feed their children," he said.

He added: "How much can a child eat in a day? It's even less than 200 shillings."

Owino also invited anyone claiming to have a child fathered by him to come forward, maintaining that children should not suffer because of circumstances surrounding their birth.

"Kama unajua uko na mtoto wangu leta huyo mtoto. I want that child," he said.

The MP questioned why Mosiria appeared to be the only person publicly advancing the allegations, suggesting that the claims could be politically motivated because of his reported interest in the Nairobi governor's seat.

The personal confrontation comes against the backdrop of an earlier dispute involving allegations about Mosiria's university history.

An old campaign video resurfaced online in which Owino accused Mosiria of having been expelled from the University of Nairobi over alleged sexual misconduct involving a second-year student. Owino also claimed that he had intervened to secure Mosiria's reinstatement.

Mosiria rejected the allegations and, through his lawyers, sought clarification from the university to protect his reputation and professional standing.

The University of Nairobi subsequently issued a letter confirming that Mosiria completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree, specialising in Finance, and graduated in 2014 with Second Class Honours, Upper Division.

According to the university's response, Mosiria had not faced disciplinary proceedings or sanctions during his time at the institution.

The records provided a formal response to the claims about his academic history, although the wider political dispute between the two officials has continued.

Owino has also taken aim at Mosiria's political ambitions, arguing that he lacks the leadership credentials required to govern Nairobi.

In remarks reported by local media, the MP said Mosiria would struggle even to secure an MCA seat, dismissing his prospects of becoming governor.

"Mosiria hata kuwa MCA ni shida, Any person in Nairobi saying Mosiria can be a governor is mad."

He went further in attacking those supporting Mosiria's potential candidacy, saying:

"Any Nairobian saying Mosiria should be governor ought to admit himself or herself to Mathari Mental Hospital."

Owino also questioned Mosiria's record in the county health department, repeating allegations concerning the handling of food intended for patients.

"A woman called Nyangi from Sakaja's office confessed that Mosiria even used to eat food meant for patients. That is a person who is not serious."

The Embakasi East MP has further accused Mosiria of failing to address persistent problems in Nairobi's health sector, including alleged losses of public pharmaceutical supplies.

He has dismissed Mosiria's highly publicised hospital inspections and cleanup activities as social media performances, arguing that filming county interventions does not amount to effective governance.

Owino has also cited Mosiria's transfers between county departments under Governor Johnson Sakaja as evidence, in his view, of shortcomings in his administrative performance.

The dispute has also spilled into broader accusations involving Sakaja's administration and the political calculations surrounding the next election.

Mosiria has alleged that Owino received KSh20 million upfront, a weekly retainer of KSh1 million and a multibillion-shilling exit package in exchange for easing his criticism of the governor. These claims remain allegations and have not been independently verified.

Mosiria has separately raised concerns with the Inspector General of Police, alleging that Owino and Sakaja were conspiring to deploy goons against him. The claims have not been independently substantiated in the information available.

Owino, meanwhile, has vowed that Sakaja and Mosiria would face jail time if he wins the Nairobi governorship in 2027, accusing them of mismanaging county funds and health resources. Any criminal liability would, however, have to be established through the appropriate legal process.

The escalating exchanges have attracted calls for restraint, with former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko among those reported to have urged the two sides to reconcile and end their public insults.

As the 2027 General Election approaches, the confrontation underscores the increasingly personal nature of Nairobi’s emerging political contest, with both Owino and Mosiria positioning themselves in the race to unseat incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja.
