Former Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has been admitted to The Nairobi Hospital after suddenly falling ill during an evening meeting, barely nine days after Governor Johnson Sakaja dismissed him from his county government position.
Mosiria reportedly developed severe dizziness shortly after having a meal during a meeting in Nairobi on Thursday, October 29, prompting those accompanying him to rush him to hospital.
Political activist and businessman Morara Kebaso, Hon. Mirina and Duke Mainga Echate were among those present when his condition deteriorated.
Echate later confirmed the incident in a public update, writing: "This evening, together with Hon Morara Kebaso and Hon Mirina, we accompanied our brother Geoffrey Mosiria KE to the hospital after he suddenly fell ill during our meeting in Nairobi."
Social media personality Obidan Dela, who also accompanied Mosiria to hospital, subsequently provided an update on his condition, revealing that he had been admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
In a video shared on Instagram, Obidan explained that the meeting had initially proceeded normally before Mosiria experienced dizziness after eating.
“Siku ilianza vizuri hadi tukaongea, alienda tu akakula then akaanza akasikia kizunguzungu,” Obidan narrated.
He added that doctors were working to stabilise the former county official, with his heart being closely monitored as medical personnel conducted further assessments.
“Na ndipo tulipata tuko hapa kwenye HDU, ameadmitiwa hapa na the doctors are working to stabilise his condition. At least he’s stable now,” he said.
Although concerns about possible food poisoning and foul play quickly circulated online following the incident, the specific cause of Mosiria's illness had not been established. Subsequent accounts indicated that he was being treated for an infection.
Mosiria later addressed his condition, saying: "I had an infection that led to my admission... I will be discharged once I'm well."
Obidan appealed to Kenyans to give him time to recover, particularly residents who frequently contact him seeking assistance with various problems.
“So we ask Kenyans wale ambao mko na shida, tafadhali sahii tusisumbue governor wetu, at least pia a take a break kidogo. Anaweza kufocus na health yake,” he appealed.
He further observed that Mosiria's ability to continue engaging residents depended on his recovery, adding: “Akikuanga weak pia itakuwa ngumu kutembea na Wakenya wataumia.”
Obidan also urged Kenyans to keep him in their prayers and said the former official would temporarily step away from social media and other public engagements as he regained his strength.
Comedian and content creator Jaymohdecin was also among those reported to have visited Mosiria at the hospital. His presence came amid online attention surrounding a satirical skit in which he impersonated the former chief officer following his removal from City Hall.
The hospitalisation has also attracted criticism from some political figures and activists, with questions emerging over the circumstances surrounding his sudden illness.
Political commentator and Safina Party Secretary-General Joakim Simiyu dismissed the incident as political theatrics, alleging that Mosiria was seeking public sympathy following his removal from office.
Simiyu further claimed that Mosiria's gubernatorial ambitions were part of a political arrangement intended to divide Nairobi's youth vote and weaken Embakasi East MP Babu Owino's influence in the 2027 gubernatorial contest.
He also questioned Mosiria's financial record, alleging that he had benefited financially during his tenure as director of Nairobi Green, a county waste management initiative.
Despite the criticism, Mosiria has continued receiving messages of support from political allies, friends and members of the public. Duke Mainga Echate expressed solidarity with him, writing: "By God's grace, the devil's plans shall be defeated."
Mosiria's hospitalisation comes against the backdrop of his recent political fallout with Sakaja.
On October 21, Nairobi County Secretary and Head of Public Service Machel Waikenda issued a circular announcing Mosiria's immediate removal as Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service. Zipporah Njeri Mwangi was subsequently appointed to serve in an acting capacity.
His removal followed his October 11 declaration that he intended to challenge Sakaja for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
Before his final assignment, Mosiria had served in the county's Health and Environment departments, where his highly publicised field operations and engagement with residents earned him considerable visibility.
Following his dismissal, he accused the county administration of sidelining him over his alleged refusal to participate in procurement irregularities favouring certain contractors. He also claimed that funding for his health docket had been reduced from KSh1.2 billion to KSh100 million.
Sakaja, however, maintained that the administrative changes were intended to improve service delivery.
Mosiria also continued making public appearances after losing his position, including visiting the site of a building collapse in Eastleigh on October 23. He had claimed that he previously attempted to stop night construction at the building along 9th Street.
His political ambitions have also drawn criticism from Babu Owino, who questioned his suitability for the Nairobi governorship during an interview on Thursday, October 29.
"He can't even be an MCA. He can't. He was removed from the Health department, moved to environment and later assigned to a customer service role. You must be very incompetent," Babu said.
The Embakasi East MP, who is also pursuing the Nairobi governorship under The Mwananchi Party within the Linda Mwananchi formation, was responding to personal allegations Mosiria had previously made against him.
Meanwhile, Obidan maintained that plans for a thanksgiving celebration in Mosiria's honour following his removal from City Hall were still underway despite his hospitalisation.
The proposed event is intended to recognise his engagement with Nairobi residents during his tenure, with Uhuru Gardens, Carnival, Kasarani Stadium, Uhuru Park and Jeevanjee Gardens among the suggested venues.
