Police in Migori County have arrested two men after intercepting a motorcycle carrying a stash of cannabis sativa valued at KSh165,000.
The suspects were nabbed on Wednesday, August 14, after officers from Motemorabu Police Post acted on a tip-off from a member of the public. Acting swiftly, the officers set up a checkpoint and stopped the motorcycle, which had a rider and one passenger.
A search of a black bag they were carrying revealed sixty-seven rolls of bhang weighing 5.5 kilogrammes. The suspects were taken to Motemorabu Police Post before being transferred to Isebania Police Station for processing. The motorcycle and the seized drugs were secured as exhibits.
Police say the arrests are part of ongoing efforts to curb the sale and distribution of illegal drugs in the region.
This incident comes just days after National Police Service officers patrolling along the Kakamega–Mumias Road recovered an abandoned black Toyota Fielder. Inside the vehicle, officers found seven large bags containing 159.15 kilogrammes of bhang, valued at KSh4.7 million.
Both cases are under investigation, with police urging the public to continue sharing information that could help dismantle drug trafficking networks in the country.
